Course Tutors and Students

 

We are now offering Course Tutors and Students studying Criminology, Architecture and Built Environment and associated subjects, an opportunity to nominate a location near to their School, College or University for a survey of crime and the 'fear of crime' and causation factors linked to the Built Environment.

 

The Students will then get the opportunity to work alongside our Crime Prevention Specialist, a former Metropolitan Police Officer and highly experienced Crime Prevention Design Advisor, as he conducts the survey. 

 

Students will benefit from our Crime Prevention Specialist's 26 years experience of policing some of the most violent and crime-ridden areas of London, his work on regeneration projects in East London when working as the Manager for Crime Reduction and Environmental Design at Shoreditch Trust and his subsequent innovative approaches to Crime Prevention.

 

The study will also provide Students with a valuable insight into Policing and practical examples of how criminals choose their territory and their 'targets' and the impact the Built Environment has upon these choices.

 

 

'Shadowing' on a Survey

 

The purpose of this approach is to make the subject of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design 'come alive' by becoming more relevant , providing the Students an opportunity to study and experience CPTED in an area familiar to them.

 

Like students who have 'shadowed' our specialist in the past, some may choose to use their experiences to form the basis of their dissertations, while others may prefer to assist in the preparation of a report and / or a presentation based on the findings which they will be offered the chance to present to their peers.

 

Areas of the Survey will include:-

• Crime Hotspots and Crime Pattern Analysis
• A Criminal's reasoning on 'Territory and Target Choice'
• The Effects of Physical Elements such as Paving, Street Layout, Street Furniture
• Transport Nodes
• The Night-Time Economy and Street Lighting
• The Impact of Crime and Fear of Crime on the Local Economy
